Description

Charon's Vail is a dark rose-oud that spends very little time being a rose. Argos builds each fragrance around a work of art or a myth, and this one takes the ferryman of the River Styx, as painted by Alexander Litovchenko, as its subject. Released in 2024, it opens with a short, bright burst of rose and then goes down into woods and resin: oud, patchouli, sandalwood and Atlas cedar, settling on cistus labdanum and saffron. The house describes the finish as almost incense-like. One reviewer found the rose sharp and metallic at first, with a dry, slightly animalic woodiness underneath, and still named it their favorite Argos. Expect something solemn and resinous rather than a pretty rose.
