Description

Wanted By Night is the one in the Azzaro Wanted line that is actually worth seeking out. Released in 2018 and composed by Quentin Bisch and Michel Girard, it opens on a genuinely good cinnamon (sharp, dry and not the least bit candied) alongside mandarin and lavender, works through cumin, incense and red cedar, and settles onto tobacco absolute, benzoin, cypress and patchouli. Bisch's handling of the cinnamon is the reason this fragrance has the reputation it does among people who otherwise dismiss the line.

How It Differs From the Rest of the Wanted Line

The Wanted family is large and the naming gives you almost nothing to work with. Wanted EDT (2016) is the bright lemon-ginger-lavender original. Wanted Tonic is lighter still. The Most Wanted Intense is the modern sweet-amber direction. Forever Wanted continues that line. Wanted By Night, this one, is the outlier and the darkest by a wide margin: spicy, smoky and resinous where the rest of the range is fresh or sweet. If the original Wanted struck you as forgettable, this is not the same kind of fragrance.

Scent Character

  • Woody: 38%
  • Spicy: 25%
  • Smoky & Boozy: 25%
  • Fresh: 12%

Translation: cedar and cypress take the largest share, with spice and a smoky-resinous quarter, that is the frankincense and tobacco absolute, splitting the middle evenly; the small fresh fraction is the mandarin and lemon opening, which burns off quickly and is not what you will be wearing an hour in.

Fragrance Pyramid

  • Top: Cinnamon, Mandarin Orange, Lavender, Lemon
  • Heart: Fruity Notes, Incense, Cumin, Red Cedar
  • Base: Tobacco, Vanilla, Cedar, Leather, Benzoin, Cypress, Patchouli

Performance

Longevity: Moderate, around 5–7 hours on most skin.
Sillage: Moderate, strongest in the first two hours.
Projection: Good early, then close to the skin.

An honest note: performance is the weak point, and it is worth saying plainly given how good the opening is. For an Eau de Parfum in this style, 5–7 hours is unremarkable, and several reviewers describe the best part, that cinnamon-and-incense first hour, flattening into a more generic woody drydown. It is a fragrance many people love and reapply rather than one that carries a full day.

Best Occasions & Season

Built for Fall and Winter, and suited to Evening and Night Out wear. The cinnamon, incense and tobacco structure is squarely cold-weather material and turns heavy in summer. Moderate projection keeps it workable in company, which is more than can be said for most fragrances built on this palette.

Concentration & Provenance

Concentration: Eau de Parfum
Perfumers: Quentin Bisch and Michel Girard

Try Before You Commit

Two things make this a sampling case rather than a blind buy: the cumin, which behaves differently on everyone, and the moderate longevity, which is the most common reason people regret the bottle. Both are answered in a single wear. A 1mL decant is $3.99, 5mL is $14.99, and 10mL is $21.99, all hand-poured from genuine retail bottles.

FAQ

Is this just a darker Azzaro Wanted?
No. The original is a bright lemon-ginger-lavender fragrance; Wanted By Night is built on cinnamon, incense and tobacco. They share a name and very little else.

Does it contain oud?
No. There is no agarwood in it. The dark, smoky character comes from frankincense, tobacco absolute and cypress.

How strong is the cinnamon?
Prominent, and it is the fragrance's best feature, dry and spicy rather than sweet or foody. It is what most reviews single out.

Will it last all day?
Usually not. Five to seven hours is typical, and the most distinctive part of the opening fades well before that. Plan on a reapplication for a long evening.
