The original, composed by Cécile Matton for Emporio Armani in 2017, paired spice and sage with a candied chestnut and vanilla base, and it became a cold-weather favorite. The flankers keep that chestnut-vanilla warmth and push it in different directions: brighter with grapefruit, sweeter with toffee, deeper with rum. They are close enough that most people only need one, which is why this set is worth it. It also makes an easy gift.

• Stronger With You (EDT): the 2017 original. Cardamom, pink pepper and violet leaf over sage and lavender, on chestnut, vanilla and cedar.
• Stronger With You Only: grapefruit over lavender and geranium, on vanilla, chestnut and labdanum. The freshest and lightest of the four.
• Stronger With You Intensely: pink pepper and juniper over toffee, cinnamon and lavender, on vanilla, amberwood and suede. The sweetest and coziest.
• Stronger With You Absolutely: rum, elemi and bergamot over davana and lavender, on chestnut, vanilla, cedar and patchouli. Boozier and woodier.

How To Use a Discovery Set

Each 1mL sample comes in a 2mL vial filled halfway, so the vial will look half full. That is the correct amount, and it gives you roughly 15 sprays. Every vial is labeled with the fragrance name.

Wear one fragrance a day, on skin rather than a paper strip, and give it the whole day. The first ten minutes are the loudest and least representative part of any fragrance; judge it at hour three. Once you have a shortlist of two, wear them on opposite wrists and compare. Intensely and Absolutely are the ones people most often confuse; wear them on consecutive days and the rum in Absolutely will stand out.
