Initio Parfums Rehab Extrait
Description
Rehab is Initio's lavender fougère rewritten as something darker and creamier than the genre usually allows. Bergamot lifts a generous lavender at the opening, but the fragrance spends most of its life in the drydown: cedar, vetiver and patchouli handing over to sandalwood, guaiac wood and musk. That guaiac is the signature: a smoky, almost resinous wood that reads warm and slightly sweet without any actual gourmand material in the formula. Launched in 2018 by Initio Parfums Privés, the Paris house known for building fragrances around a stated mood, Rehab is catalogued for women and men and wears genuinely unisex. Wearers who like Spicebomb Extreme often land here, and consistently describe Rehab as the airier, better-built of the two.
A note on how this is often described: marketing copy for Rehab, including our own previous description, has referred to "spiced tobacco" and "vanilla." Neither appears in the formula. The impression is real, but it comes from guaiac wood, lavender and patchouli meeting in the drydown, not from a tobacco or vanilla note. We would rather tell you what is actually in the bottle.
How It Differs From Initio Side Effect
- Rehab: aromatic and woody. Lavender-led, dry, smoky-creamy through the base. The more wearable of the two in daylight and the easier one to wear to work.
- Side Effect: boozy and spicy. Rum, cinnamon and vanilla over a sweeter, denser body. Louder, more obviously "evening," more polarising.
- Choose Rehab if you want the Initio mood without the sweetness, or if lavender and dry woods are your territory and most modern fougères read too clean.
Scent Character
- Woody: 56%
- Aromatic-Floral: 12%
- Fresh: 12%
- Smoky / Resinous: 12%
- Sweet: 6%
Translation: a woody-aromatic built on lavender. The "aromatic-floral" reading is the lavender itself, it measures floral but never smells like flowers, and the smoky-resinous share is guaiac wood and patchouli, not agarwood. There is no oud in Rehab.
Fragrance Pyramid
Top: Lavender, Bergamot
Heart: Cedar, Vetiver, Patchouli
Base: Sandalwood, Guaiac Wood, Musk
Performance
- Longevity: 6–8 hours on most skin, and reports genuinely diverge. A minority get 9–10 hours; others find it a skin scent by hour four or five and gone by hour seven. Skin chemistry matters more here than on most extraits.
- Sillage: moderate at the opening, then intimate. This is the most common criticism of Rehab and we will not talk around it: for an extrait at this price, several wearers expect more projection than they get.
- Projection: around arm's length for the first hour or two, then close to the skin. Wearers who love it tend to apply generously, six to ten sprays is commonly reported, not two.
Best Occasions & Season
- Season: Fall, Winter and Spring. The dry woods and lavender have enough lift for mild weather and enough warmth for cold.
- Occasions: Evening and nights out, where it was clearly aimed, but the moderate projection makes it perfectly viable for an office or a dinner.
- Gender: unisex. Catalogued for women and men; the lavender-and-woods structure is not gendered.
- Skip for: hot, humid days, the guaiac and patchouli turn heavy, and for anyone shopping specifically for projection.

FAQ
Is Rehab for men or women?
Unisex. It is catalogued for both, and the lavender-cedar-guaiac structure reads masculine-leaning to some wearers and simply "dark and dry" to others. Nothing in the composition assigns it a gender.
Does Rehab actually contain tobacco or vanilla?
No. Neither is in the note list. The warm, faintly smoky-sweet impression people describe as tobacco comes from guaiac wood and patchouli in the base, and it is genuinely there. It just isn't a tobacco note. Wearers on Fragrantica make the same observation: the tobacco feeling never arrives as a distinct note.
Is there oud in it?
No agarwood. The faint smoky-resinous facet some people notice is guaiac wood: a different material entirely, smoother and drier than oud.
How long does it last?
Plan for 6–8 hours. Some wearers get appreciably more, some appreciably less, and the projection settles close to the skin after the first hour or two. If you want an Initio that announces itself across a room, this is not the one.
How does it compare to Spicebomb Extreme?
It is the comparison wearers reach for most often. Rehab is airier, drier and more refined; Spicebomb Extreme is sweeter, denser and more obviously spiced. Rehab reads like the better-made of the two to most people who own both.
